One of wonderfully talented customers Sharon sewed her granddaughter an absolutely breathtaking First Communion dress using Ivory Nelona and exquisite champagne maline laces. The pattern used is Martha Pullen's "Heirloom Party Dress," however, any high yoke pattern can be used. Per Sharon, "My daughter-in-law wanted a cape look, so I started with a portrait collar. Then, for more texture for the cape, I used all edging lace, attaching the rows with a straight stitch, using 100 wt. thread. When I had enough width, I treated the lace as one piece and gathered the top row and attached it to the portrait collar, which I attached to the dress at the neck. The sleeve ruffle used the traditional way of making the lace wider by adding insertion lace at the top until I had the width I desired." Thank you, Sharon for allowing us to share your stunning granddaughter and gorgeous dress!
