Bridget Anderson’s "Callie’s Summer Watermelon" Dress

Bridget says, "It isn’t summer without a BIG slice of watermelon!! How about one as a pocket on your little one’s dress? Crisp white birdseye pique sets the background for the Children’s Corner "Callie" jumper. Green cotton poplin polka dot fabric and sizzle pink piping border the dress....

To make the watermelon pocket, trace watermelon shape onto folded piece of fabric (sizzle pink broadcloth to match piping). Stitch the curved part of the watermelon, leaving a place to turn it right side out. Press. Sew watermelon seed beads or buttons randomly onto pocket. Stitch pocket down to dress leaving the top free. Now make your rind by stitching medium white rick rack to the edge of watermelon. Using a pleater foot, pleat apple green grosgrain ribbon. Turn under the ends of the ribbon and stitch this down on top of the rick rack so just the tips of the rick rack are showing."
